Maryhurst is pleased to announce the details of its 2016 “Journey of Hope” luncheon on Wednesday, May 18, at The Louisville Downtown Marriott. The annual fundraiser highlights Maryhurst’s work with Kentucky’s abused and neglected children, as well as pays tribute to its many generous supporters and the accomplishments of its alumnae. This year’s guest speaker is Donna Brothers, NBC Sports on-track reporter, racing analyst, and former jockey. The 2016 Alumna of the Year honoree is Cherie Jones, a resident on the Maryhurst campus from 1986 – 1987. In addition to the luncheon, the Maryhurst Boutique will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for luncheon guests and the general public. The boutique will feature art, jewelry and gifts from local artists and Maryhurst girls, plus Maryhurst Gourmet Cookies baked by Desserts by Helen. All proceeds from boutique purchases benefit the children in Maryhurst’s care. Raffle tickets will also be sold and can be bought for one of five packages for $10 during the luncheon.
On Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 6:30pm two of Louisville’s most spirited social groups, the Whisky Chicks and the Bourbon Brotherhood, will come together at the Gillespie, located at 421 W. Market Street, to host the 3rd Annual Bourbon Mixer, a fundraiser to benefit the Coalition for the Homeless. The evening will combine great Bourbon with upscale southern cuisine in a spirited atmosphere that will cater to both aficionados and novices. Each participating distillery will be sharing their passion for Kentucky’s native spirit along with samples chosen just for this evening. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a wide variety of auction items, including one-of-a-kind Bourbon experiences and rare bottles of whisky. The 8th Annual Jane Austen Festival will take place July 15, 16 & 17, 2016 at the beautiful 1790s Locust Grove. The festival celebrates British author Jane Austen (Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, etc) in a manner that emphasizes living in Jane Austen's world. The theme for 2016 is Eat, Drink & Be Merry in Jane Austen's England.
Speakers on food and drink are planned, as well as music, a village of vendors with dresses, bonnets, fabric, patterns, jewelry, and much more. Each day a four-course tea is served by reservation. Workshops, a Grand Ball, and entertainment such as a Duel Between Gentlemen, bare knuckle boxing, an archery demonstration and the crew of the H.M.S. Acasta will be encamped on the grounds and Lord Nelson will join us!
On Saturday an attempt to break the Guinness Book World Record number of people in Regency attire will be attempted.
The festival begins Friday at 6:00 p.m. with shopping and entertainment until 9:00 p.m. and runs through Saturday and Sunday 10:00-5:00 p.m.
Friday admission is $8 per person, Saturday & Sunday are $12 each day.

This is our 9th Annual Car, Truck and Bike show! Bring out your vehicle and join in the fun. Early entry is $15 day of show is $20. Early entry will be entered into a special drawing during the event. There will also be door prizes for all entries. Along with goodie bags and Trophies to the top 3 in each division along with an overall winner. There will be a special guest giving out the awards to be announced at a later date. This special event will bring together the area’s best male and female bartenders and chefs to create memorable cocktails and small plates for an epic Bourbon battle of the sexes, plus a blind tasting of specialty Bourbons and American Whiskeys from Heaven Hill Distillery.
The Anatomy Academy will put tongues to the test in a blind tasting to identify more than a dozen Bourbon & Whiskey-related flavors to see whether men or women have the sharper palate. Attendees at the Anatomy Academy will also choose a favorite cocktail, and Bourbon Women will announce the winners chosen by the women and the men. The Arts & Cultural Attractions Council invites the community to experience hands-on arts and cultural activities for all ages for FREE at Waterfront Park.
ACA members from the Louisville Ballet and Louisville Orchestra to cultural attractions such as the Muhammad Ali Center, Frazier History Museum and the Kentucky Derby Museum will be on hand to offer prizes, art-making and performances.
The Food Truck Association will provide food and beverages and donate 15% of its proceeds to ACA. Louisville Water Company will provide water for a bottled water free event.
